It has to be some kind of irony that a rapper who calls himself a post-futurist is only getting to see the American release of his 2004 album in the opening month of 2008, right? Thanks are in order to Def Jux, anyway, for taking a chance on Nostalgialator, Mike Ladd's fourth solo album under his own name. On it, you can hear what post-futurism sounds like. Basically? It simply means that Ladd has no qualms about mixing and matching genres. The album is most assuredly hip-hop, but soul horns, elementary school filmstrip soundtracks, modern classical strings, and even a spot of guitar all find their way onto the record underneath Ladd's frenetic, literate flow.
