Live at Jazz Standard Volume 2

Russell Malone

You'll rarely read mention of Russell Malone without the word swing coming too far behind. That word perfectly describes the guitar playing that you'll hear on Malone's Live at Jazz Standard Volume 2. These instrumental tracks are, as you might imagine, far busier than the work that Malone has put down for Diana Krall or Harry Connick, Jr., which gives him a chance to flex his soloing muscle most notably on a hopping version of "Theme From Gunsmoke" and a flamboyant take on "Mugshot." Given the chance to stretch out, it's plain that Malone is very much enjoying himself here, so much so that you can almost imagine the smile on his face as he runs through a soulful take of the Isley Brothers '"For the Love of You."
