Husband and wife make beautiful music together.

This married couple from Mali might be the hottest thing in world music these days; they could give eclecticism a good name. On this best-of spanning 1998-2003, they seep salsa, r&b, reggae and rock into the bluesy sound of their desert homeland to create deep, magnetic grooves that motorvate infectious melodies and punchy horn arrangements. Amado's jangly guitar work, somehow driving and languid at the same time, provides the signature sound, but Mariam's almost Middle Eastern vocals ("Djagneba") sometimes threaten to steal the show.
