Jakalope, It Dreams

A side project of Dave Ogilvie from Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails 'Trent Reznor — but more proudly commercial than either — It Dreams imagines an odd goth club situated somewhere between Evanescence and Front 242. "Creeper (Coming For You)" is closer to the former, with its machine-press riffing and Katie B's searing vocals, while the groaning synths and clicking computer rhythms of "Come On" align it squarely with the latter. And despite the presence of renowned Dungeon Masters like Reznor and Babes in Toyland's Kat Bjelland, there's nothing quite as harrowing as anything on The Downward Spiral. Rather, It Dreams is a haunted house made of gingerbread — no scarier than Casper, no darker than the bluest shade of Manic Panic.
