A bucolic set of portraits of country life from one of Europe’s greatest 18th composers.

For his follow-up to The Creation, Haydn deals with matters earthly, in a bucolic set of portraits of country life through the cycle of the year. A tempestuous overture depicts the transition from winter to spring, and from there we move through a musical storybook of picturesque scenes: a storm, a sunrise, the heat of midday, hunting and drinking adventures, a love duet, a spinning song. Helmuth Rilling leads a rousing performance by the Gachinger Kantorei Stuttgart.
