The grandest score from (at the time) Europe’s greatest composer.

The 1798 premiere of this oratorio, the grandest score from Europe's greatest composer, was a sensation. His powers of tone-painting reached a peak of expressiveness, with passages vividly representing the Chaos of the void, the creation of light, leaping tigers and creeping worms; its untroubled, optimistic religious feeling seems to sum up the entire Age of Enlightenment.
