got LIVE if you want it!

The Rolling Stones
Looking for a great live Stones album? Look elsewhere.

Got Live If You Want It is not only a not-great live album, it isn't even exactly a live album, either. Two songs — Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "Fortune Teller" — are actually studio recordings with audience cheers piped in over them. Such were the times. The actual live performances are, as a rule, very, very quick. "Under My Thumb" goes from a slinky tune to something much more punk and "The Last Time" gets positively manic. Excluding "Time Is on My Side," that's pretty much the case across the board. Though they began as a great live band and became one again later in the decade, in 1965 at the height of Stonesmania the actual performances were little more than afterthoughts. Approach with caution.
