Young Husband, Could They Be Jealous

Young Euan Hinshelwood has Morrissey's worldview and Ray Davies'vocal chords. The two songs on the “Could They Be Jealous” have a kind of bedsit melodicism, the sound of one man glumly strumming away, blinds pulled, lights out. The title track is all gold, a big loping vocal melody going loop-de-loop over glimmering guitars. “Soft Deadly Hymns” is where the death creeps in, rubberband guitars stretching around Hinshelwood's tired sigh. Both songs are so irresistible that there's no cause telling Euan to cheer up — it would only ruin everything.
