Few works in the classical canon are as deeply associated with the "Americana" sound as Copland's "Appalachian Spring." Here, the suite receives an exemplary performance by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and conductor Paul Gambill. By contrast, his "Three Latin American Sketches" delineates the bridges between North and South America. Also included are the extraordinarily moving and profoundly simple "Quiet City," and a commanding performance of the Clarinet Concerto, featuring soloist Laura Arden. This album is an excellent introduction to Copland's music.
