Lucid Dream

Carey Ott

Fresh from last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Carey Ott's songs are languid and captivating, musically rock & roll but spiritually very country. Opener "Am I the One" is exactly what I wish Ryan Adams sounded like, "Daylight" epic and ambitious (never underestimate the minor-key chorus), "Mother Madam" reminiscent of John Mayer's pop-folk and the snippet for "I Wouldn't Do That to You" should be brought up on charges for cruel and unusual punishment (just when you're into it comes the fade-out). Although his years toiling in assorted Midwest bands would undoubtedly make him shiver at the term, Ott is an impressive newcomer to the scene.
