The beautiful sound of improvisation.

Another project involving Chris Cutler, this time working alongside Christoph Anders, Heiner Goebbels and Alfred Harth, Cassiber stuck to some of the basic principles of improvisation — “none of the material was written or rehearsed,” declare the sleeve notes. However, the use of such elements as “prepared cassettes,” “objects” and “metal sheets” indicated a newer, more intense and frenetic approach, probably influenced by This Heat. Tracks like “Six Rays” are quickening soundclashes of tradition and modernity, while there's a similar urgency about “In Eine Minute” which seems to be picking up the pulse of a new era. Taking their cue from Robert Wyatt, the album concludes with a version of Chic's “At Last I Am Free,” reinvented as an alternative, leftist Euro-anthem.
