The lute was an archaic instrument in Bach's day, but that didn't prevent him from lavishing on it some of his most intricately contemplative solo instrumental music (and transcribing his cello suites for it as well). Today, Bach's lute music is often performed on guitar and Tomo Iwakura's sensitive performances help to explain why.
