It’s Rae Sremmurd‘s moment, where it seems like just about anything — including an unlikely Lana Del Rey mash-up — can turn out to their advantage. The Mississippi-transplanted Atlanta duo released a debut album, SremmLife, today via Interscope. The Mike WiLL Made-It proteges have appeared on an alternate All-New Captain America cover and crossed boundaries with Baauer and AlunaGeorge, while the success last year of singles “No Type” and “No Flex Zone” led to their track with Nicki Minaj and Young Thug, “Throw Sum Mo” (all three songs are on the LP). As Billboard points out, a hybrid of “No Type” with Del Rey’s breakout 2011 song “Video Games” has been floating around on Soundcloud, and as with the best mash-ups, it makes what might appear incongruous into something remarkably seamless. This rework sets siblings Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee’s rapping about loving all varieties of women — as long as they’re “bad bitches” — over Del Rey’s swooning orchestration. A pitched-up Del Rey joins in at the end: “I heard that you like the bad girls / Honey, is that true?” They say the world was built for two.
