Prince fans who haven’t seen him perform with 3RDEYEGIRL will have a chance on November 1, when the ever-elusive icon is set to appear on Saturday Night Live for the third time. The performance is the first television appearance in support of Prince’s two new albums, the solo record ART OFFICIAL AGE and the 3RDEYEGIRL collaboration PLECTRUMELECTRUM. (Someone clearly loves the all-caps key on their computer. Or simply doesn’t know how to turn it off.)
SNL made the announcement on Twitter an hour ago, and upped the ante by confirming that Chris Rock is hosting the very same episode. The last time the former cast member passed through the show’s New York studios was 18 years ago. We’re not sure if he did a Prince skit then, but Warner Bros. did send this photo along with their own press release:
One possible cameo appearance on next month’s show is actress Maya Rudolph; since leaving SNL in 2007, she’s made some headlines for her Prince cover band Princess, which tackled his tracks alongside the Roots at Brooklyn Bowl a few years back.
Another Prince-related appearance we hope to see — but aren’t holding our breath over — is an encore presentation of his recent onstage collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. Because what better excuse could one have for delaying his or her album than performing on SNL with Prince?
