UPDATE: 3RDEYEGIRL issued an apology for the confusion in Toronto yesterday via the Schure Media Group and originally sent to Billboard:

We are thankful for the outpouring of love and support and apologize for any confusion surrounding the anticipated performance tonight. Our technical crew is set up in Toronto to rehearse lighting and sound for possible future performances. As Live Nation and Massey Hall announced earlier today, there is not a scheduled performance tonight; there was never confirmation of a show. We love and thank our fans in Toronto. To all those who lined up and travelled in to the city for tickets, we hope to see you soon and are looking forward to bringing our show to Toronto in the future.

Prince fans who started lining up at Toronto’s Massey Hall early this morning just got some bad news from Live Nation (via Billboard): He won’t be following up last weekend’s Saturday Night Live appearance with a secret set after all.

This despite a Tweet — since deleted — on the 3RDEYEGIRL account that said, “4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT CALLING…” Meanwhile local DJ Josie Dye told her Twitter followers, “Yes there was going to be a show! Prince decided moments ago he ‘just wasn’t feeling it.’ So sad.”

Sad, but not surprising considering Prince’s history of doing whatever his heart desires at all times; whether that means canceling the rest of a tour, while promising a bigger one is on the way, or letting another group of diehard fans down and cancelled a scheduled second performance. With that in mind, we leave you with a 1982 set that’s better than any 2014 appearance could ever hope to be:
