On Friday night, fresh off an opening date in Salt Lake City with Wu Tang Clan, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, the dynamic duo Killer Mike and El-P took the stage as Run the Jewels at the Showbox in downtown Seattle with rip roaring energy. Pausing twice, to dedicate a song to the teen recently fatally shot by police in St. Louis, and to return a wallet and phone left forgotten in the men’s bathroom — “Don’t leave your social in your wallet, man! I just opened up three credit cards,” advised Killer Mike upon its owner rushing on stage to claim it — the night flowed seamlessly from song to song. “We’ll be back with Run the Jewels 2,” Killer Mike assured the audience toward the end of the night. After the small taste of this perfect fusion, there’s no doubt Seattle will be back to see them, too.
