There is only one Shara Worden in this world and her uniqueness permeates every song she creates. Chicagoans who braved a storm Monday night were lucky enough to see at least a couple songs she performed as My Brightest Diamond before the show at Pritzker Pavilion was cut short. She was in her glory as she danced around with local favorites, punk marching band Mucca Pazza. Playing with a drummer and a bassist, Worden switched between keyboards and guitar, adding lovely vocals to compliment the instrumental melodies. Even though the rain kept some fans away, the experience was still one to be treasured as we all huddled together under cover afterward until the storm abated.
Opening the set was another local favorite, White Mystery, a brother-and-sister duo on drums and guitar who always play an energetic set that continues to tighten up with each show. Miss Alex White and her tight red curls flailed about without missing a beat; White Francis was also in his element, at one point joining the crowd and curling up into a ball. The duo makes playing fast-paced rock look as easy as taking a walk in the park.
