Mike Hadreas was already an accomplished singer/songwriter before Too Bright, his most recent album as Perfume Genius, but what sets the latest full-length apart is its conceptual boldness combined with an attention to granular details. Both are on display on the emotive, atmospheric ballad “Fool,” and now they’re also visualized in the song’s video.

Directed by Charlotte Rutherford, the clip shows Hadreas, dressed and made up a bit like for his recent late-night TV appearance, rollerblading into a corner store, pushing past a mirror and then taking part in such increasingly absurd and unpredictable activities it’s worth being surprised yourself. This one follows Too Bright videos for “Queen” and “Grid,” the latter of which Rutherford also directed.
