From Fiona Apple to David Bowie, much has been made of the surreal cover songs on American Horror Story this season. None of which are that striking when you consider the Glee roots of the show’s co-creators, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

One surprising music supervision choice reared its creepy little head last night, however: post-punk vets Pere Ubu. According to a press release, the band’s new Carnival of Souls album was tapped for two key tracks: “Carnival” and “Road to Utah,” which play throughout the two-part Halloween episode that concludes next Wednesday on FX. “Road to Utah” is particularly important, since it acts as the loose theme song for Wes Bentley’s (American Beauty, The Hunger Games) central character Edward Mordrake.
