As if he wasn’t busy enough co-producing the new Tennis LP, lending some lean drum lines to The Rentals, and getting ready to rock arenas this fall with the Black Keys, Patrick Carney has now added Netflix to his rather large resume. Namely the new Adult Swim-ish animated show BoJack Horseman, which Carney wrote the instrumental theme song for. Not quite the garage rock treatment you might be expecting, it has more in common with the Keys’ RZA-inspired Blakroc project. At least in terms of the approach — a cinematic/snappy blend of steady-handed beats, wailing horns and windswept strings. And one of the reasons the track is so tight? Why, it’s Carney’s Uncle Ralph, a jazz veteran who’s worked with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jonathan Richman and more.
