London producer A.G. Cook‘s PC Music label continues to be one of the more improbable stories of 2014. “Not so much candy as Candy Crush,” as our editor-in-chief, J. Edward Keyes, described label roster member Hannah Diamond‘s giddy “Pink and Blue” this summer, the outfit’s digital-native confections have generated debate — and, in my case, the occasional bout of stupefied adoration — well beyond the dance underground (latest obsession: Diamond’s “Every Night“). Yesterday, a batch of unreleased Madonna songs surfaced including one track reportedly co-produced by Cook’s QT partner Sophie; today, abstract electronic noisemaker Daniel Lopatin’s Oneohtrix Point Never project has shared a collaboration with Cook. “Bubs,” Brooklyn-based OPN’s track with the PC Music head, goes all over the place in its Crystal Pepsi two minutes. Preceding it in today’s new two-track set is the darkly droning mesmerism of “Rush.”
