Back in October when Katy Perry appeared on ESPN’s “College GameDay” it sparked rumors that the pop star was first pick for this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show. And while the Wall Street Journal reported that the League would ask artists to pay for the prime time slot, Perry said that under no uncertain circumstances would she be digging into her pockets for the honor.
It appears that they didn’t care though.
Tonight, Perry was announced as the official performer of the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show.

Perry is currently on tour in Australia, so she missed tonight’s American Music Awards where she won an award for Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock category.
