New York has lots of secret weapons musically, but few have been as sorely overlooked in the singer department as Nancy Whang. Aside from her multi-faceted role in LCD Soundsystem over the years and the many Juan MacLean songs she’s stolen the spotlight in, Whang has also starred in major dance singles for Soulwax (“Another Excuse”), Classixx (“All You’re Waiting For”), Holy Ghost! (the Ministry cover “I Wanted to Tell Her”) and more. And while those in-the-know have long recognized this, no one’s bothered to release a solo record from her until this week.
Now available through Gomma, The Nancy Whang Casablanca Reworks feature disco ball-doused covers of Donna Summer (“Working the Midnight Shift”), Dennis Parker (“Like an Eagle”), Parliament (“Flashlight”) and Kiss (“I Was Made For Loving You”), as produced/remixed by Audiojack, The Revenge, Etienne De Crecy and more. Check out four of the tracks below and a sampler of the rest over at the official Gomma site.
