Two of rap’s most internet-besotted breakout successes in the past couple of years are joining forces. Atlanta’s Migos, whose 2014 mixtape Rich N***a Timeline followed last year’s Y.R.N mixtape and its Drake-cosigned “Versace,” have unveiled an upcoming collaboration with Brooklyn-based Vine star Bobby Shmurda. Appropriately being called Shmigo Gang, the release will also feature Atlanta’s Rich the Kid and Migo Domingo along with Brooklyn’s Rowdy Rebel, based on artwork shared by Migos; Shmurda retweeted a separate tweet mentioning the collaboration.
The timing is fitting for a year where Migos and Shmurda both reached toward new heights. Rich N***a Timeline was just one of four mixtapes for the trio of Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, plus a collaborative album with Gucci Mane, World War 3D: The Green Album. Shmurda, whose “Hot N***a” is one of our 75 Best Songs of 2014, parlayed the “Shmoney Dance” meme into a major-label deal and Top 10 single on Billboard‘s Hot 100.
Migos have also been planning a proper debut album, Y.R.N. 2, which is expected in February 2015. Shmurda, who debut Shmurda She Wrote EP became available just last month, will also likely release his first new studio album sometime next year.
