Former Bad Seed Mick Harvey has announced an expanded reissue of his two solo records that tackle the familiar and sorely overlooked recordings of Serge Gainsbourg. Due out May 6 through Mute, Intoxicated Man / Pink Elephants was originally released as separate records in the mid ’90s, with guests like Warren Ellis, Nick Cave and Betrand Burgalat standing in for Gainsbourg’s familiar muses Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot and Anna Karina.

“Translating a great writer is like walking through a minefield,” Harvey said in a press release, “and I set myself the difficult task of attempting to keep the places of rhyming, metre and meaning accurate to the originals. One or more of these elements is usually dispensed with in the translating of poetry and lyrics, but I did not want to iron out any of Gainbourg’s more aberrant angles or lose any of his especially perverse and peculiar touches.”

Check out “Dr. Jekyll,” one of the two previously unreleased tracks on the collection below, and if you’d like to see Harvey perform “Bonnie & Clude” and “Je T’aime… Moi Non Plus” live, he’ll be performing at London’s Union Chapel on May 27, Primavera Sound on May 30, and Theatres Tilburg in the Netherlands on June 14…
