The Men Co-Founders Reveal Synth-Laced Dream Police Duo

Not quite content with releasing at least one The Men record every year, band co-founders Mark Perro and Nick Chiericozzi have now revealed the debut album from their other project Dream Police. Due out November 11 through their longtime label Sacred Bones, Hypnotized has nothing to do with the Cheap Trick single the duo may or may not have been named after. As evidenced by the title track below, it’s much more sinister than that — psych steeped in mechanized drum machines and loose synth lines. A Suicide pact Alan Vega would be proud of, really. According to a press release, it’s not a side project either; it’s “a new realization for the original brains behind The Men’s psychedelic & sonically stimulating vision.”

Or as Chiericozzi explained in a Noisey interview, “Dream Police began with two songs. It was only after we recorded them on four-track that we gave the project a name and put those songs out for release on tape. It became, unconsciously I think, an outlet for our two-pronged style of songwriting that began The Men. It lived concurrently alongside, but it operated very much in the shadow of the main focus. So in that sense it was an exercise, not a band.”

That’s how it started at least. Considering the packed tour schedule the pair has this fall, it looks like Police Duo is their main priority at the moment.
