Mary J. Blige’s recently released 13th albumThe London Sessions finds the iconic singer exploring new sounds with collaborators including Disclosure and Sam Smith. But one of the LP’s standout tracks is the classic Blige ballad “Whole Damn Year,” which details her struggle to mend a broken romance. Rather than focus on this specific tale of heartache and pain, Blige’s video for the song tells the stories of three relationships dealing with anger and domestic violence. It’s not an easy watch by any means, but at least it provides some hope while reminding viewers of the horrific situations so many people experience.
