Lorde and Kanye West now officially have much more in common than both being spoofed on South Park. Or perhaps make that “much less”: West’s remix of “Yellow Flicker Beat,” from the Pure Heroine singer’s soundtrack for the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, adds by subtracting.
The original’s clatter of percussion gives way to a more muted, bass-heavy palette, a looming thundercloud through which Ella Yelich-O’Connor’s moody lightning can strike (it’s retitled “Flicker (Kanye West Rework)” for good reason). Lorde recently posted the “Yellow Flicker Beat” video; a set of visuals for West’s sparsely cinematic rendition here would be even more welcome.
Lorde’s Hunger Games soundtrack will be released on November 17, and the movie opens in theaters on November 21. Other tracks streaming from the album include Chvrches’ “Dead Air” and Miguel’s Lorde-spiked Chemical Brothers collaboration “This Is Not a Game.”
