It’s already November 7 in Lorde‘s native New Zealand, which means the Pure Heroine star has just turned 18 years old. Last year, the recent South Park spoof subject marked her birthday with a gracious and disarming open letter, which came right after now-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio walked out for his election-night victory speech to the strains of her hit “Royals.” This year, she’s celebrating with a video for “Yellow Flicker Beat,” from her The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 soundtrack.

The song has so far peaked at No. 74 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, and the clip might not by itself do anything to change that, but it’s a stylish set of visuals from director Emily Kai Bock (Arcade Fire, Grizzly BearGrimes). Lorde sings in a neon-lit hotel room, beside a swimming pool at night and at a fancy party, where she drops into some sort of void. There’s no clear narrative, but she makes it easy to believe her when she warns, “I’m locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me.”

Lorde’s Hunger Games soundtrack, which also includes a Kanye West remix, is due out on November 17, and the movie arrives on November 21. Also from the soundtrack, we’ve previously heard Chvrches’ “Dead Air” and Miguel’s Lorde-laced Chemical Brothers collaboration “This Is Not a Game.”
