This band is crucial. Hailing from Toronto, Weaves kicks all notions of song structure square in the gut, instead following their own sun-warped internal logic. Witness “Hulahoop,” a song that lurches and swoons for the entirety of its three minutes, freaked-out guitar line holding clammy hands with Jasymn Burke’s loop-de-loop vocal line. Weaves function like a fun-house mirror, bending and distending and generally weird-ifying traditional art rock to startling effect.
