Terry Malts aren’t going to shake off the Ramones comparisons on their new Insides EP, but that’s okay; sticking to simple chords and two-minutes-or-less tracks like “Let You In” is exactly what we want from the Bay Area band. All killer, no filler, as they say — the kind of thing we may have enjoyed at the Warped Tour in the late ’90s, when the Descendents and blink-182 shared the main stage and hooks were as important as guitar heroes. That said, Terry Malts covers a Chills song (“Hidden Bay”) at the tail end of this August 26 release, so who knows what other record aisles they’re referencing these days.
