Canadian producer Swim Good is awake. Over the past year-plus, First Rate People member Jonathan Lawless has left a trail of balmy, bursting bedroom dance-pop that at its best brings to mind the Avalanches, the Go! Team or Air France. Most recently, that includes this spring’s “Upgrade,” along with a remix of “Vampires” by S, the project of Carissa’s Weird member Jenn Ghetto, and “Grand Beach,” a collaboration with S. Carey and singer/songwriter Daniela Andrade. “Sleeper Hit” might be his most vibrant use of this palette yet, with whoops and hollers amid the kaleidoscopic DIY-disco backing to set the vacation-party scene as he begins, “Back from holiday.” He’s singing to someone whose travels have left something to be desired, and he hopes, in her life, the sleeper hit will be him. “I’m not saying that I’m the obvious choice,” he acknowledges. “I’m just laying it all down.” He could get his heart broken, but it’s hard to be too worried when the song is this catchy and hyper-colored.
