Forget PC Music just for a second: the real future sound coming out of London right now is that of Boxed, a clubnight and producer’s collective dedicated to a floaty, weightless take on (largely) instrumental grime. Boxed affiliate Shriekin makes his recording debut later this month with the Gold And Featherwork EP for Local Action. “Steel Ships” gives a taste of his style: a mysterious and contemplative piece mixing hard percussion and springy bass with almost new age-y trickle of water, topped off with a gorgeous, blown-glass melody that recalls Aphex Twin at his prettiest.
