This ambient grime tearjerker from south London producer Miles Mitchell has been making waves on more open-minded dance floors this year, opening up a little space in the mix for the hard men to gulp back a tear and get in touch with their emotions. It’s a simple but effective trick: Mitchell takes the vocal hook, borrowed from Blackstreet’s 1997 hit “Don’t Leave Me”, and spins it out repeatedly over tremulous, lip-quivering synths and bass notes that fall like tears on a pillow. There’s more where that came from on his forthcoming Parallel Memories long-player, which lands on Planet Mu in December.
