London emcee Meridian Dan was for years one of grime’s nearly men, wheeling around in the orbit of scene linchpins like Skepta and JME while never quite distinguishing himself as a talent in his own right. That all changed with “German Whip”, a link-up with Big H and JME that got swiped up by PMR Records earlier this year and became that rare thing in 2014: a relatively orthodox grime tune that cracked the UK Top 20. On “One Two Drinks” he swaps luxury vehicles for late-night bar cruising: a plea for good times in the rave that nonetheless bristles with bravado, all booming operatic vocals and a beat that skips around like a nimble flyweight.
