Mac DeMarco, Brother

Mac DeMarco’s last record, the splendid, sublime, simply-titled 2, was full Orange Juice: a loose tangle of guitars stumbling over DeMarco’s cabaret open-mic croon. “Brother,” from the forthcoming Salad Days is smoother and slower. Where the songs on 2 often seemed jittery and nicotine-fueled, “Brother” feels like settling into a lawn chair on a crisp day. It’s terrifically heavy-lidded, a lazy little ballad intent on taking its time.
