LVL UP, “Ski Vacation”

LVL UP’s latest single is a clashing of two worlds. On one hand it’s luminous and sanguine, its pop hooks climbing, falling and shining with brilliance. But then Dave Benton’s slacker drone melds into the mix and “Ski Vacation” nosedives into a mellower moodiness. The track isn’t as lo-fi as LVL UP’s previous work, nor is the subject matter as carefree. But as guitar arpeggios rappel off of the familiar rhythmic sway reminiscent of ‘90s indie gods Dinosaur Jr., it’s clear that the departure isn’t all that drastic. You’ll find “Ski Vacation” on the band’s new LP Hoodwink’d, out September 23rd via Double Double Whammy and Exploding in Sound Records.
