Unlike its sample-driven lead single — and his clubbier 12” on Caribou’s Jiaolong imprint — the second taste of Toro Y Moi’s Les Sins LP falls more in line with his funk and soul-infused day job. The difference here being how Chaz Bundick passes the mic over to a guest singer (relative unknown Nate Salman) and focuses more on production details like a wobbly low-end, laser-cut synth lines, and lots of disco-leaning piano-house parts. No wonder why we can barely remember what chillwave sounds like anymore.
