As the anticipation continues to build around Flying Lotus’s new album, it’s easy to forget he’s got a label of his own to run too: the beat head-friendly Brainfeeder imprint. While it often feels like a tight-knit survey of LA’s underground scene, the label left one spot open in its roster for the British producer Lapalux. Back from an 18-month break with the three-part single “Movement I, II & III,” Stuart Howard sounds like he’s on the cusp of dropping a real breakthrough record — something that tugs on your heart strings without resorting to tired Burial tropes like so many other young producers from the past few years.
