When Katie Rush says she’s in “Dangerous Luv,” l-u-v, you best believe she means it. The contrast between grown-up perils and doe-eyed innocence is all over this song (via Gorilla Vs. Bear) from the recent debut EP Law of Attraction; moony bubblegum-pop reflections on a relationship meet a crumbling, moonlit grandeur that’s halfway between a decaying Simple Minds tape and Janelle Monáe-Miguel team-up “PrimeTime.” Rush is Brooklyn-based singer Katie Wagner, with producers Sam Mehran and Zak Mering. Mehran was a member of Test Icicles, which also included Dev Hynes, now perhaps better known as Blood Orange; “Dangerous Luv” features a vocal Blood Orange’s Cupid Deluxe guest Samantha Urbani, who knows this kind of retro-revisionist territory well from her other group, Friends.
