Just as the rough and ragged strains of country music slowly gave way to the sleeker, lusher Nashville-based “countrypolitan” sound, which favored string arrangements and angelic backing vocals, so Jenny Lewis has moved from the relatively spare Rabbit Fur Coat to the fuller Acid Tongue, and now delivers “The Voyager,” the second single from her forthcoming record of the same name. Swaddled in strings and and moving as slowly and gingerly as a boat down a river of milk, “The Voyager” balances slowly-swooping arrangements with a steady, surefooted melody from Lewis, who laments human restlessness and and contemplates her own propensity to wander.
