The sonic archaeologists over at the excellent Pressure Sounds label — known for delivering steady batches of classic, under-exposed roots reggae — have done it again. This time, they’ve unearthed a super-rare collaboration between producer Phil Pratt and legendary vocalist Horace Andy called Get Wise, which was only released in limited quantities in Jamaica, and not at all outside of it. As the outstanding “80% Badness” indicates, the album could justifiably be called a “Lost Classic.” Andy’s vocal on the song is one of the best of his career, leaping and skipping across the notes, and doing a sly tango with a weird, bent-wire guitar figure. It’s a beautiful, bravura performance, deservedly rescued from obscurity.
