As if he wasn’t busy enough drumming alongside the power drones of OM, conducting beats in Lilacs & Champagne or co-piloting the grandiose instrumental music of Grails, Emil Amos also has his longtime solo project Holy Sons. Set to make its Thrill Jockey debut on September 23 with The Fact Facer, it’s gone the avant-pop route lately, serving up skewed little numbers like the Circle Jerks cover below. Slowed down to a crawl and delivered the way a TV on the Radio tune might be, it’s haunting where the original was straight-up SoCal hardcore. And it’s yet another example of why we may never be able to pin one sound on this guy.
