For those familiar with Denver-Seattle duo Gorgeous Children, their slick new single “Howedoit” is a clear departure from their 2013 EP ICE (released via Jacques Greene’s label Vase). The eight-track collection was meditatively dark, producer Gila Monsta’s beats dank, complicated, steely, but delicate at the same time. The melange makes him a perfect pairing for duo rapper Face Vega, who is meticulous in lyricism but tends toward lethargy in his delivery. But those are the elements that have a listener finding something new each time you revisit one of their tracks. With “Howedoit,” Gila has brightened the corners a bit, offering Vega cacophonous bell samples befitting his brooding bedroom bars. He sounds like he doesn’t give a shit about the girls flocking to him, but when he raps, “Tattoos are stupid/ but damn, she’s a natural,” his secret eye for detail is especially apparent.
Gorgeous Children also appear on Rustie’s forthcoming sophomore effort Green Language and will open for him on upcoming dates in the U.K.
