“Outrun Me” is about a fragile first love (“young boy, pale skin, genetic longing”) whom Fear of Men frontwoman Jess Weiss is trying to convince to leave her. Oh-so-politely, she pleads, “Outrun me, the past does not come easily,” like she’s telling him, “I’ve changed, now let me go so I don’t have to break your heart.” It’s vulnerable and heart-crushing; combined with heavenly “ooohs” “aaahs” and reverbed undertones, this UK band hits a perfect indiepop sweet spot.
