Casio-fi synthesizers meet classic hip-hop and freestyle in this broke-brain mixtape from Orange Milk recording artist EQ Why. The Brooklyn label specializes in dilivering warped (mostly) tape-only releases of some of the super-strange, super-surreal synth music — their earlier releases played like the soundtracks to the kind of knockoff ’80s sci-fi films that used to turn up on broadcast television at 3am on a Thursday. The Chitoyo mixtape combines that bizarro aesthetic with snatches of classic rap songs for a result that makes the familiar marvelously inscrutable.
