Nashville bruisers Denney and the Jets make music that imagines the Rolling Stones circa-Exile, hemmed in by a burger-a-day budget. You can hear undercurrents of country (there’s a clearly discernible twang in that guitar) and soul (the foot-stomp rhythms and unmistakable sense of groove), all of them filtered through a loose-and-easy, garage-rock sensibility. Their forthcoming debut, Mexian Coke was produced by Andrija Tokic, who recorded Boys & Girls for Alabama Shakes, and you can hear a similar sense of reverence — and irreverance for the past in both records.
