Cut Hands, “The Claw”

Power electronics pioneer William Bennett has found quite the second career in Cut Hands, a self-proclaimed “Afro noise” project that arrives as advertised: a blistering mix of fidgety drum beats and fuzz-boxed effects that’s much more musical than anything Bennett did in his decades of Whitehouse work. If that group was meant to provoke unpleasant reactions across the board, Cut Hands is simply determined to make dance music for the end of days. “The Claw” sharpens that mission statement like a chef’s knife, heralding Bennett’s new album (Festival of the Dead, out October 14 through Blackest Ever Black) with one protracted bang.
