Taking a slight turn away from the unsettling Swans nods of “Absisto,” the second single from Cold Specks’ upcoming Neuroplasticity album is closer in spirit to her last. Revolving around Al Spyx’s spotlight-seizing vocals, it’s notable for its rhythm section, which can’t seem to stick to a steady beat. It speeds up and slows down without warning instead, as horns and synths lurk just out of reach, leaving the listener feeling a bit queasy and wondering whether the bodies in question are alive or dead.
