Now that last week’s sneak attack release of Broke With Expensive Taste isn’t such a surprise anymore, critics seem to have arrived at one consensus: beneath all the bluster she can’t seem to hide on Twitter and the many delays surrounding her debut is a rather fantastic album. Sorry Interscope; you missed out on this one, and let Five Finger Death Punch’s label step in to pick up the pieces.
“Ice Princess” is one of the surefire singles Banks has been holding in her back pocket for the past year, a frosty AraabMuzik production that ping pongs between two of Banks’s greatest strengths — her fang-baring rhyme schemes and endorphin-flooding choruses that cater to the club crowd. (A Morgan Page sample doesn’t hurt either.) Where Banks will go from here is anyone’s guess; all we know is lots of naysayers are surely biting their tongues and kicking themselves in the interim.
